USTMA Student Athletes and family members were treated to a special pre-Halloween treat on Saturday, Oct 30, 2010 with a trip to the White House. Grand Master Eung Gil Choi made special arrangements to organize a school-wide visit to Washington DC to tour the White House residence. Dressed in full school uniform and belts, USTMA students of all ages represented the taekwondo academy and enjoyed the opportunity to take a self-guided tour together to learn about the remarkable building. A chance to view the estate grounds, the famous Red and Green rooms where state dignitaries are greeted, as well view famous portraits of presidents hung throughout the rooms was appreciated by all. Grand Master Choi also offered a chance to connect with new USTMA students and families who shared in the experience. |
Oct 23, 2010: USTMA Taekwondo Fundraiser Campaign Raises Over $15,000

USTMA raised over $15,000 this year under Grand Master Eung Gil Choi's "Kick Cancer Out of the World" fundraising campaign. Starting in August, USTMA launched its annual fundraising campaign to raise funds for cancer research and awareness. The annual campaign is comprised of several benefit events that not only showcase taekwondo and martial arts expertise but raise awareness for the support needed by local organizations such as the Blue Ridge Hospice. This year, the 12th annual golf tournament, charity auction, taekwondo competition tournament and a martial arts demonstration were hosted by USTMA to raise funds for Blue Ridge Hospice and the American Cancer Society. USTMA student athletes sold tickets, broke boards and built awareness with the support and sponsorship of family and friends. The Honorable Mayor Umstattd of the Town of Leesburg was in attendance, along with visiting Korean officials to lend their voice and support of Grand Master Choi's campaign to raise $1 Million to kick cancer out of the world. It's not too late to contribue to the campaign! The fundraising campaign is open all year round and while we've closed out 2010, we've already started to plan for 2011 and the 19th consecutive year that USTMA has held the campaign. You can donate to our cause by visiting our campaign page. |
USTMA Nominated for Local Philanthropic Awards

StayClassy is a for-profit organization that supports non-profits in their fundraising efforts. For the second year, the organization has created an awards program that recognizes the efforts of local businesses and individuals dedicated to doing good in the community. USTMA was the only Northern Virginia-based organization to be nominated for a Stay Classy Award in the DC area. We were nominated for awards in two categories this year: Most Creative Fundraising Campaign and Philanthropic Small Business of the Year. Award recognition was based on public voting and USTMA placed third in both categories. We're very proud of our nomination and recognition of the efforts of our students in giving back to the community! |
